PRIZES
One blue (1st place) ribbon will be awarded in each of the following categories:
Best Cucumber
Best Hot Pepper
RULES
Individuals may not register more than one entry for each of the categories listed above.
JUDGING CRITERIA
For best cucumber, 50% of the score will be based on appearance (even, darker green color with smooth and shiny skin) and 50% of the score on taste (crisp and refreshing flavor).
For best hot pepper, 50% of the score will be based on appearance (free of any damage from insects, disease, or otherwise; ideal ripeness) and 50% of the score on taste (satisfying level of heat).
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Register for the vegetable/fruit contest at https://www.dcstatefair.org/2026-contests by 11:00 pm on Friday, August 21. No walk-up registrations will be accepted.
Bring your entry, accompanied with a removable label that includes your name, the contest category, and the name of the entry (see template), to the 4th Floor Conference Center at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library at 901 G St NW on Saturday, August 29 between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
