PRIZES

Blue (1st place), red (2nd place), and white (3rd place) ribbons will be awarded in each of the following categories:

  • Best Crochet

  • Best Knitting

One blue (1st place) ribbon will be awarded in each of the following categories:

  • Best Embroidery 

  • Best Quilt (blanket)

  • Best Needlepoint

RULES

  1. Individuals may not submit more than one entry for each of the categories listed above.  

  2. Each item must be handmade by the individual; however, quilters may have used a sewing machine in preparing their submission. Entries must be complete; quilts must have a top, batting, backing, and edges. 

  3. Quilts are allowed to be finished through outsourcing/longarm services. Quilts finished by longarm services are eligible with credit to the longarmer.

  4. Entries must be completed within the past two years, and not previously exhibited at the DC State Fair.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. Beauty (40%)

    1. Entry has a pleasing design, overall impact, use of color, design, and workmanship.

  2. Workmanship (30%)

    1. Entry demonstrates mastery of the craft, with limited or no errors.

  3. Creativity/Originality (30%)

    1. Entry is notable in its meaning and uniqueness.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Register for the fabric, textile, and fiber arts contest at https://www.dcstatefair.org/2026-contests by 11:00 pm on Friday, August 21. No walk-up registrations will be accepted.

  2. Bring your entry, accompanied with a removable label that includes your name, the contest category, and the name of the entry (see template), to the 4th Floor Conference Center at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library at 901 G St NW on Saturday, August 29 between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.

PICKUP INSTRUCTIONS

  1. To pick up your entry, you (or someone on your behalf) must pick it up between 4:00 and 5:00 pm on the same day as judging (Saturday, August 29) from Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.
