Vegetable / Fruit Contests
PRIZES
One blue (1st place) ribbon will be awarded in each of the following categories:
Best Cucumber
Funkiest Looking Vegetable/Fruit
Heaviest Vegetable/Fruit
RULES
Individuals may not register more than one entry for each of the categories listed above.
JUDGING CRITERIA
For best cucumber, 50% of the score will be based on appearance (even, darker green color with smooth and shiny skin) and 50% of the score on taste (crisp and refreshing flavor).
For funkiest looking vegetable or fruit, the winner will be 100% determined by which one strikes the judges as most funky, to include but not be exclusive of, unique shape, most warts, or most striking color pattern.
For heaviest vegetable or fruit, the winner will be 100% determined by the one that reaches the highest number on a scale.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Register for the vegetable/fruit contest at https://www.dcstatefair.org/2025-contests by 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15. No walk-up registrations will be accepted.
Bring your entry, accompanied with a removable label that includes your name, the contest category, and the name of the entry, to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library at 901 G St NW on Saturday, August 23 between 11 am and 1 pm. Exact room location will be sent closer to the date.
